Fabric Demand at Intertextile Shanghai: Three New Shifts in Buyer Structure and Trends

As the Shanghai exhibition comes to a close, looking back at the face-to-face interactions over the past few days, we have not only achieved great results but also gained profound insights into industry shifts. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all new and old clients for your visit and support.

Three Shifts Stand Out Clearly

First, the buyer demographic’s decision-making structure is changing. In the past, fabric procurement was primarily driven by traditional importers, wholesalers, agents, and apparel brands. Today, a growing number of design and development led companies are directly involved in fabric selection and procurement.

Second, the exhibition presented a clear trend-driven direction. Both domestic and international buyers showed strong interest in crochet and warp-knit fabrics, particularly those featuring casual light-sport styles, high breathability, and low-saturation color palettes. Buyers spent significantly more time lingering at these booths for in-depth exploration.

Third, end-user demand places a greater emphasis on personalization, diversification, and multi-scenario applicability, making single-function fabrics increasingly inadequate for meeting comprehensive client needs.

Two Key Insights for Our Future Direction

These market shifts offer two key insights for our future direction:

First, we must deepen our close collaboration with clients’ design and development departments. Because they directly determine the ultimate application of the fabric, engaging earlier in their upfront R&D is essential to translating our product advantages into their design inspiration.

Second, we need to provide greater support and cooperation for clients’ procurement and production departments. Only by bridging the technical gap between fabric sourcing and garment production can subsequent manufacturing and final apparel results be executed efficiently while truly satisfying the original design intent.
